Joseph Waters
Drawing inspiration from many sources including classical, rock, jazz, Asia,
Latin America and Africa, Joseph Waters is a member of the first generation
of American composers who came to classical music through rock 'n' roll. He
is equally comfortable in the worlds of traditional acoustic as well as contemporary
electronic composition. Waters' works are regularly performed throughout the
world. During the past two years performances have taken him to Russia, China,
Argentina, Hong Kong, Spain, Mexico and Hungary. His recent composition "Flamehead"
(for percussion solo and electronics) is a humble offering to Chango, the god
of lightning and thunder. Waters studied composition at Yale University, the
University of Minnesota and the University of Oregon.
